One Saturday night in late December we were driving home from dinner at Great Grammy's house, where we had eaten with my parents and Great Grammy. As we drove up to our house we noticed something or someone in our yard. As we shined our headlights on it we saw Cowboy and Mrs. Clause! These guys have been a Christmas prank tradition in Benji's family for years now so we knew they had come all the way from Louisiana, we just didn't know how. At first we were so shocked that we thought maybe, just maybe someone from Louisiana was actually here and waiting in our house. That would have been amazing, but upon further inspection we quickly realized that wasn't the case. So we immediately called Danny, who feigned ignorance and wouldn't tell us anything except that he thought Sam might know something about it. So then I called my dad thinking he may have been in on it. He also feigned ignorance until I basically said I knew it had to be him that put them in our yard. Then he told us the story.
Sam and Melissa had been "Cowboy Claused" last year so they had these decorations. They knew a boy in their ward, Corey Jackson, was moving up here (in the Summer I think) and so they asked if they could stick these guys in the moving truck and have him put them in our yard secretly around Christmas. He was suuuuuuuuper great and agreed to do it. The poor guy moved 4 or 5 times and moved them right along with him each time. As Christmas drew near Corey became too busy to do the deed and called Sam to tell him. So, Sam called my parents and asked if they would go to Provo to pick up the Clauses and then deliver them at night to our house. My parents were thrilled to be asked to be a part of it all! And Dad was very sneaky. On that fateful Saturday night he parked a little way from our house and watched as we drove out to go to Great Grammy's. Then he put them in our yard and amazingly made it to Great Grammy's before we arrived with the food!
We were so thrilled to have been "Cowboy Claused" because it was such a thoughtful thing and really made us feel a part of the King family Christmas since we weren't able to be with them in Louisiana. Thank you Sam and Melissa for thinking of us, Corey for carting those things around and Dad for helping make it all work!
This is Corey with the Clauses when my dad picked them up. (I think I can see some relief in his expression)

To have a little fun we snuck over to Jeanne's and Jon's at night and stuck them in the yard. They assumed it was a neighbor so they put them in their garage and never mentioned them to us. So, at our family Christmas party we shared our story and everyone loved it. Then, they went and "Claused" Great Grammy. I don't think Great Grammy quite understood what was going on, though.
We loved getting Cowboy Claused! Hopefully we can get them back to Louisiana somehow.
