Pumpkin Picking--In the Backyard!

Last year after Halloween and Thanksgiving when it was time to get rid of our pumpkins Benji threw them into this dirt patch that used to be a garden.  He didn't think much of it until spring when he saw these huge leaves and vines growing and realized they were pumpkin leaves!  He's been excited to harvest them and tonight was the perfect night for it.
Ruby loved these little ones that were small and cute.
Dixie and Carson loved getting to pick each one they wanted with Daddy.  I love how getting back to simple things in nature is so fun.  Their smiles in these pictures look so full of joy.

Ruby got some little white ones she loved (like babies to her), and we found a teeny tiny one just Lily's size!

Here's Dixie's loot and she wanted to take the picture holding our own little punkin.

We ended up with 30 pumpkins in all.  And they are such different varieties.  I LOVE having them by the front door as decoration.  It is so festive and would have cost a good amount to buy.  None of ours were big enough to carve so we'll buy carving pumpkins later on.
Pretty awesome for not planting a single one!
