Trench Time

The kids love when we have annoying homeowner projects to do because it always involves getting dirty.  Here they are on a huge pile of gravel to fill our window wells.
The beginnings on the huge trench Benji and my dad, Jim, dug to divert water away from our house. They dug it out in the pouring rain and the soil is like clay.  I felt terrible for them.  IT WAS MISERABLE.
Like I said, he loves any chance to play in the dirt!

So, on a rainy day about a year ago (the night before Benji took his grueling exam for CNIM) we were playing with the kids in the basement and just before we went upstairs Benji thought he heard running water in the bathroom.  He thought maybe one of the kids left the sink running or something.  When he walked in he saw a lot of water rushing through the window into the bathroom.  Since then, every time we have a hard rain our basement bathroom floods.  Luckily, it was in the bathroom so cleanup wasn't as bad as if it was in a different room.  But, it was still something that had to be fixed. Finally, Benji and my Dad worked so hard, dug an enormous trench put in pipe and gravel and (hopefully) fixed the issue forever!
